UNIDENTIFIED FUNK OBJECTS (FUNK GEOGRAPHIES) (2024)
unidentified Funk Objects (Funk Geographies) is an observational documentary and soundscape that reimagines our engagement with funk music through innovative visual and sonic archives. By deconstructing and illuminating black masculinities with Black feminist methodologies, UFO explores funk’s revolutionary essence across continents. Tracing the genre’s impact from James Brown’s Black and Proud , Manu Dibango’s Soul Makossa in Africa , Chaka Demus & Pliers’ reggae twist on Funkadelic’s One Nation to iconic Hip-Hop samples, this sonic-visual film highlights funk’s cross-continental power and enduring relevance. It underscores how funk continues to shape cultural movements and social resistance within diaspora communities and on the African continent.
